As a travel destination, Bali has some of the broadest appeal. From a thriving nightlife scene that attracts young backpackers and party animals, to family-friendly resorts that welcome holidaymakers with young children, to a unique culture and heritage that interests those with an insatiable curiosity about the world, here at The Bali Sun, we know that the island really does tick all the right boxes.

The over-60s travel demographic is one of the most influential travel groups in the world. In Indonesia, this demographic is referred to as the rather chic ‘silver-haired’ generation.
The ‘silver-haired’ travelers are on the move now more than ever before, and Bali is the perfect destination. Affordable, accessible, good weather, wonderful hospitality, thriving social experiences, and a unique culture. It’s easy to see why the province has become the destination of choice for the over-60s.
Over the last decade, there has also been a rising trend for the multi-generational holiday. Once again, Bali ticks all the right boxes. For families with adult children and parents vacating together, Bali offers experiences for everyone to enjoy, both together and apart. As it turns out, Bali’s top attractions are also the most in demand with the over 60s and multi-generational holidaymakers.
Top of the list is Uluwatu Temple. The nightly kecak performance overlooking the Indian Ocean has become something of a picture postcard image of the south of Bali in recent years and is unmissable for tourists. The fiery kecak performance depicts a scene from the Hindi epic the Ramayana and tells the story of the triumph of good over evil.
The spectacle is something all ages can enjoy. The show starts at 6 pm each evening, and arriving early is essential for a good seat. Our top tip is to bring a cushion, as the hard seats can lead to achy bums! Tickets cost IDR 150,000 per person, and the show is the perfect way to end a day exploring Uluwatu’s cultural landscape.
Penglipuran Village in Bangli Regency is a must-visit for culturally curious holidaymakers and is ever-popular with more mature tourists.
Voted the cleanest village in the world and listed among the best tourist villages in the world by the UN World Tourism Organisation, Penglipuran Village is the only pedestrian village in Bali.
Tourists experience firsthand the community’s traditional way of life, including trying on Balinese traditional and ceremonial dress.

The Bali Sun top tip for Penglipuran Village is to arrive as early as possible to avoid the crowds, to take time to explore the ancient bamboo forest, and to make a visit into a full day tour of Bangli Regency, ticking off some of the region’s best waterfalls. We love Tukad Cepung Waterfall!

For a culturally inspired, affordable, and easily accessible attraction that offers something for all ages, the GWK Cultural Park near Uluwatu is a strong choice. Home to the tallest statue in Indonesia, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana statue, which stands at 121m tall, and 65 metres wide (taller than the Statue of Liberty), the park offers tourists a glimpse into the depths and breadths of Balinese culture all in one place.
Here at The Bali Sun, we highly recommend purchasing the extra ticket to be able to access the top floor of the statue. On a clear day, you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the island, including Mount Agung, Mount Batur, Sanur Beach, and the Benoa Bay area. With daily live cultural performances and attentive, accommodating staff, the GWK Cultural Park is not to be missed by tourists in 2026 and beyond.

In terms of areas to stay for the over-60s visiting Bali, the most popular destination is Sanur. This area of Bali has retained its traditional fishing village charms, and while there is a buzz about the place at night, there are no big nightlife venues or beach clubs that stay open late.
Ubud is a top choice for the silver-haired holidaymakers, seeing a cultural immersion, and Amed and Candidasa in East Bali are the most desirable ‘off-path’ escapes for this demographic.
