Australian Tourist Found Dead in Sanur Hotel, No Foul Play Suspected

DENPASAR, Bali — Police in Bali have ruled out foul play in the death of an Australian tourist found unresponsive in a hotel room in Sanur, with initial findings pointing to natural causes.

The victim, identified as Geoffrey Kenneth Alford, 71, was discovered at a hotel on Jalan Danau Tamblingan, South Denpasar, on Tuesday evening at around 6:30 p.m. local time.

Denpasar Police spokesperson, First Inspector I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya, said a crime scene investigation found no signs of violence.

“The examination showed no indication of foul play. The victim is believed to have died due to illness,” he said on Wednesday.

Found After No Response

According to police, hotel staff became concerned after the guest failed to respond to calls since the morning.

Attempts to contact him by phone and by knocking on the door were unsuccessful. When staff tried to access the room using a master key, they found it locked from the inside.

A technician was called to assist in opening the door.

Once inside, the victim was found lying on his back on the bed. Authorities noted no signs of disturbance or struggle in the room.

Forensic Findings

Hotel security reported the incident to police, who conducted a preliminary forensic examination at the scene.

“Our forensic team confirmed there were no signs of violence. The death is suspected to be related to health conditions,” Adi said.

The body was later evacuated to Prof. Dr. I.G.N.G. Ngoerah General Hospital for further examination.
